Final Fantasy XVI is a 2023 action role-playing video game developed and published by Square Enix. Released for the Playstation 5 in June 2023, with a Windows version released in September 2024.

Final Fantasy XVI follows Clive Rosfield. Set in the twin continents of Valisthea. Divided between six nations who hold power through access to magical Crystals and Dominants, who act as hosts for higher beings. Join Clive as he witnesses the destruction of his kingdom and navigates the growing conflict between Valisthea’s nations and a secret power driving the war.

I have experienced the game and what strikes me was the UI for seamless switching of battle modes. This is primarily a action game and the way the UI changes as the user performs an action with Clive is just downright amazing, increasing immersion into the video game.

This study will primarily be focused on combat UI shown above, along with the controls. Deliverables for the study will be the interaction designs of how these UIs work together to increase immersion into the video game.

  1. Main UI 1 - Player Status(Top Left) - Not Functional
  2. Main UI 2 - Secondary Action(Bottom Left) - Functional
  3. Main UI 3 - Primary Action(Bottom Right) - Partially Functional

Takeaways Certain User Flows are complex and Figma does lack functionality in certain areas, like taping and holding a button in terms of prototyping. This was also a refreshing dive into motion design for prototyping.
